Government Policy on Conflict Prevention

Co-Chair of the APPGCI Simon Hughes MP led this extended 90-minute debate, the first-ever in Parliament devoted to conflict prevention. An in-depth discussion took place withthe Minister of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs,Ivan Lewis MP. Topics included theincreasing significance of conflict prevention in the coming strategic defence review, government spending on conflict prevention efforts and their effectiveness in enhancing national and international security.
During the debate, the Minister agreed to further discussion with the APPG on Conflict Issues. This meeting will take place in March and cover a more detailed briefing on HMG’s policy on conflict prevention.
